Common setup questions
These answers match the most common eSIMstep setup cases after purchase.
Should I use QR code or direct link?
Use direct link when you are opening the eSIMstep order on the same phone you want to install. Use QR code when you can scan from another screen or device.
Why does iPhone say Cellular or Mobile Data?
Apple wording changes by region. Cellular and Mobile Data lead to the same eSIM setup area.
What if Android direct link does not open setup?
Some Android devices or browsers do not support automatic eSIM links. Open your eSIMstep order and use the QR code method instead.
When should I turn on roaming?
After the eSIM is installed, turn on data roaming for the eSIMstep Travel line when you arrive at your destination.
Should I turn off my Primary SIM?
Usually no. Keep Primary active for calls and SMS, but keep Primary data roaming OFF. If you completely turn off Primary, calls and SMS to that number may stop.
Which line should use mobile data?
Set mobile data to eSIMstep Travel. Keep Default Voice Line on Primary if you want calls and SMS on your regular number.
When should I install my eSIM?
Check when your plan validity starts. Many travel eSIMs start when they connect at your destination, but some start after installation. If yours starts at install, wait until closer to your trip.
What if QR or direct install does not work?
Use manual installation details if provided. The key fields are usually SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code.
